What was your first entrepreneurial venture?
When I was 10 I started a small bicycle repair shop in my neighborhood. Using my dad’s toolkit and purchased supplies I began tightening handles, spray painting bodies and replacing chains for kids all over the neighborhood. That was the first time I learned about profit and why it should matter to a business.
What do you want to learn more about? What’s your next focus?
I’m very interested in cognition and consciousness from a philosophical and technological standpoint. I’d like to learn more about the cutting edge of research into AI, machine consciousness and any explanations for the so-called “hard problem of consciousness.”
Where would you go in a time machine?
I’d go back to the 1960s, an era of style and substance. The aesthetic of the age and the energy of the social movements at a time are both things I’d love to see. Coincidentally I’m also a huge fan of the TV show Mad Men.
Why do you jump out of bed with a big smile on your face each morning?
The morning is my favorite time of the day because it’s fresh, the sun’s out (rarely in Boston) and the entire day is ahead of me. I jump out of bed every morning because I know I have a whole day ahead of me to make progress on my goals or projects, no matter what they may be.
