A big congratulations to the 2019 UFirst Fellows for completing the program! The 8 week long accelerator program concluded with a Demo Day on August 16th in which the 12 teams showcased their companies and the progress made throughout the summer in front of investors, mentors, members of the Core Community and the larger Boston tech ecosystem.

UFirst is an accelerator for first time founders from the Boston ecosystem to help them take their businesses to the next level. We started UFirst because at Underscore we recognize that it takes a community to build great companies. This is particularly true for first time founders. We’re also working to create an ecosystem with access to talent, capital, and expertise that helps make Boston the best place to start a company.

This year we selected 12 talented teams from over 150 applications. This years cohort hails from some of Boston’s leading academic institutions, including MIT, Harvard, and Northeastern, among others. Each of the teams are tackling meaty problems in the fields of AI/ML, mobility, security, and the future of work.

Over the course of the summer, the teams joined us in our new incubation space in Old City Hall. Each team was matched with a mentor from our Core Community of experienced founders, executives and domain experts from leading tech companies across Boston. The teams participated in Underscore’s Startup Secrets workshops, working through key elements of building their companies, including defining value propositions, identifying target customer segments, building go-to-market strategies, hiring, fundraising, and others.

We’re honored to welcome the UFirst Fellows into the Underscore family and encouraged that the future is in their hands!
